Want to be FAMOUS?

Hello, my darlings.

If, like me, you are secretly harboring thoughts of total world domination using coolness, jaw-dropping good looks, ample amount of smarts, and white-hot passion for things with social relevance as your ammo, then here's something that might be of interest to you. Yes, YOU, because even with my little known amount of greatness *cough, cough* I'm afraid I'm going to have to bow out of contention on this one on account of my age. Yes darlings, I am one old fart - fabulously cool but sadly, numerically-dated - so, boohoo.

But all of you gorgeous 16 to 20 year-olds may still have a chance to turn yourselves from a complete unknown to, tadaaaaah!, a household name! A commodity just like your favorite brand of shampoo or toothpaste, let's say.

As you know, I like surfing the web (before and after office hours if I may insist) in search of bits of information that I can use for intellectual affectation. Current events, economy, fashion, celebrity news, movie reviews, fitness, health, sports - I like reading about these things. I may not absorb half of the information sometimes because I can get easily distracted and I have also noticed that I am starting to manifest early signs of Alzheimer's (totally kidding, you guys!), but I like reading just the same. Or more like, keeping myself socially-informed.

So anyhoo, this morning, I came across this link here and I thought to myself "Darn it, why was I born 14 years earlier!" Normally I'm not very sensitive about my age but I have my moments. And this morning, I had one of those. But no worries, these moments are all but transitory. I do not have an obsessive personality. Not yet, at least, but slowly getting there. haha.

I digress too much. So anyway, I read about this search for the PLDT Watchpad Crew and I thought it very interesting. If only because it offers something which three-quarters of the world population spend half of their lives pursuing: FAME! And don't even try acting coy about it because we all know you are just as attention-whorish as the person sitting next to you.

So I looked at the mechanics and it didn't seem that herculean. In fact, any 16 to 20 year olds who come in a stunning package of beauty, smarts and personality can join. I believe all that's required is a 2 to 3-minute audition video of yourself convincing the judges why they ought to give you the opportunity to become part of the crew - joining the ranks of celebrities like champion drifter Alex Perez.

And that's not all! I heard there's a brand new notebook and some cash involved as well. Now who wouldn't want any of that? I'll take the cash in a heartbeat and get me tickets to the F1 Races in Malaysia and Singapore to watch Fernando Alonso take the other drivers to F1 racing school! You are, of course, aware that Raquel's future ex-husband and my future better half Fernando romped-off with the F1 2010 season opener victory at the recent Bahrain GP? Why do you think this silly grin has never left my face since Sunday night? It's Fernando baby, and yes, Pagbilao too. *wink*

Okay. I should stop. I am now officially sinking down the pits of self-loathing on account of ageing. Nah. I am not. I love myself too much to even contemplate the opposite. So darlings, I guess it won't hurt to pass on this bit of news to your friends or family. Who knows, you just might have one of the five winners in your midst. After all, it's always nice to have a celebrity in the family. Yep, that's what my family says about me all the time. Of course, you are well aware that most of these conversations happen only in my head, right? hahaha.

Embrace your inner diva, people, send in that audition video and see how far you can go. It may not be that far, but at least, you took the first step in letting the world know of your otherwise quiet existence.

Well I still think you would be a shoe in for this... Give them younger ladies a run for their money. Damn that limiting age criteria.

Hi Vicky,

What's 30 (or 31)? It's just a number!

It's how you look (and feel) ;-)

See you on the road!

Hi Ray! Obviously, I missed Globe Run for Home. I'm at the KLIA at the moment waiting for my 12nn flight back to Manila. Sayang, I had registered pa naman sana for 21k. Gotta train hard for my next marathon in July. I'm doing the Milo marathon.:)

Hi Vicky,

You missed a nice race last Sunday. Good luck on your Milo Marathon!

p.s. If you want company on your long runs, just holler.

When I was in my mid-20s, a 30-something woman told me how she wished she could turn back time and be 20 again...that didn't ring a bell back then...I guess opportunities that come with age brackets (or restrictions) are really rubbing the fact that you've gone older :(

@Lynx, ya, sometimes it doesn't make sense when people keep saying age is just a numerical data. Not when the numerical data keeps going up and some of your body parts are being pulled down by gravity. Though I still think 30 is a damn good age but I will probably think differently when I'm 40. Goodness, that's only 9 years from now!
